weak spark?
i have a 1986 camry le with only 84,000 miles on it. got it about 2 years ago and ran like a champ. now all of a sudden, it's hard to start in the morning and nearly impossible when it's hot. when it starts it runs ok, but idles low and sometimes stalls. fuel pump works, timing is right on, and the cap, rotor, coil, wires, plugs, battery, and alternator are new. check engine light is not on, but key-on test revealed 6 flashes. was told by haynes, chiltons, pep boys, and various websites that i need to replace the ignition control module (ignitor), because of a weak spark.
here's the problem: this car doesn't have one! never did. through research, the car was manufactured in japan, so none of the manuals that i have looked through have the same wiring diagrams as the car is wired. the only thing on the distributor is the coil, the pick-up, and what looks like a small capacitor with no markings. i have a black and a black w/orange wires going to the coil (with the black w/orange stopping at this "capacitor" then brown wire coming out and going to the coil), and red and white wires going to the pick-up. nothing else. so now what?
is that piece a capacitor, and if so, what's a replacement for it? or better yet, where can i find a proper wiring diagram for a 1986 toyota camry le that was made in japan?
