2nd Generation A/C question

Hey guys,

I am new on here, and I appologize in advance for my ignorance. I just got a 1991 Camry, and I am trying to fix some of its issues. When I turn the a/c on it blows but never gets cold, so I assumed it would need more freon, but how do I know what type to get for it, does it tell me somewhere on the car? The manual was more or less shredded. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

It uses Freon... R12. You can either pay quite a bit to have the freon refilled and a leak test done. Costs upwards of $100 in my area, or have it converted to R134A for about $100 as well.

If you convert it to R134A, it will not get quite as cold as with Freon / R12, but if you ever need to recharge the AC again you can do it yourself for as low as about $12.

Freon / R12 now days requires a special license to handel so its much more expensive!
