2nd Generation 89 camry solenoid

I bought my camry last march worked great, then one day I went to start it nothing happened. The weird thing is, when I first got the car I started it just fine, over and over. I have replaced the starter 4 times, all 4 brand new parts, and different brands. This last time it worked for a while, but after driving for a while it wouldn't start. My uncle who replaced the starters said to tap it with a hammer, it worked like a charm. This is starting to get embarrassing, I love my car, it's a beast of a machine. My question to you Toyota nation What could I do besides cutting wires.

Also When I turn my lights, heater on the lights the dash lights dim down to a very low light, I have to keep the knob that adjusts the dash lights low because I don't want it to stop running while idling.

p.s the solenoid used to be black, now the very top of it is silver because of hitting it so much.

There's a great thread right at the top of the forum called "Starter Relay"

...

...

Come back after you have read it.

-Charlie

PS. Check your engine grounds and alternator wiring - it sounds like you also have an alternator issue.

He did but Im honestly thinking the relay won't even help.

I mean all i have to do , if my car doesn't start is tap he solenoid and it starts right up. Not sure if it's the starter but I here a dull click sound underneath the car (maybe the starter click sound from underneath).

Are these rebuilt starters or truly new ones? My guess is they are rebuilt starters from the same source and they are not replacing the solenoid contacts when they rebuild them. Do a search on "starter contacts" and read up on the problem and it's cures. It's been covered numerous times on this forum.
