91 US camry 3s fe automatic won't start when hot
Hi,
My 1991 Camry starts in the morning every time when cold, but intermittently will not start after engine is hot. The issue has become much more frequent in last two months. Tapping the starter with a wrench when engine is hot and then turning key would usually work, but now that is not really working. After a few hours of engine cool off and tapping with the wrench, I will sometimes get lucky and the car will start (like last night).
Will check the battery with a meter later today and possibly teardown starter and check out solenoid contacts. It is a reman starter with about 9 months of time installed in car. Not sure if solenoid is the issue, maybe the heat is having expansion effect on worn commutator brushes
The dash lights do dim when key is turned and there is a click (activating solenoid?) every time the key is turned when the issue occurs, with no engine turnover at all.
Does this car already have a starter relay in the kick panel fuse box?
Thank you for any help.
