2nd Generation Rocker Cover

I've decide to clean up my engine and next on the list was the rocker cover, but since being a novice at engines I'm abit unsure exactly was to do . It's a 92 SV21 and I would have ago but knowing me i'd stuff it, so I would love a step by step guide about taking it off, puting it back on and anything else you can think of.

Here is a pic to help use out with the guide.. thanks

To remove:
1) Disconnect negative battery terminal
2) Disconnect ignition leads from the top of the valve cover
3) Then you'll see these large hex nuts, i think they were 29mm. Unbolt them. Also, disconnect the hose going into the valve cover on the right hand side.
4) Pull it off. If it does come off easily, give it a few taps with a wooden or rubber mallet as the RTV/liquid gasket at the corners of the camshafts usually hold it together a bit
5)Viola! Valve cover is off.

Installation is pretty much the reversal. You can re-use the valve cover gasket if you want, just make sure you put a few lines or beads of RTV sealant/liquid gasket at any 'sharp corners', like where the camshaft meets the head.

What do you want to do? Clean it up or re-paint it? If re-paint, all of it or keep the silver strip with 'Toyota' and '2000 16v'?

1) You'll need to get rid of all oil and most crap on it with degreaser.
2) Then sand it, maybe 240. Wipe over with 'wax and grease' remover(preferred as it's the stuff you're supposed to use when painting) or as a cheaper or easier alternative, multi thinners or metho.
3) Mask up what you don't want to paint/don't want paint to go on, which would be oil filler hole(only the hole and top surface), nipple valve on the RHS and the metal strip with writing(if you don't want it painted).
4) Get yourself a spray can of metal primer, give it about 3 coats. It's better to have thin coats than thick coats, otherwise it'll run. Wait 10 mins between each coats on a good day(sunny, warm and not humid)
5) Sand with 320 or 400grit. Wipe over with multi thinners
6) Paint with whatever you like. The metalcast duplicolour looks pretty good IMO. There was a thread about it not too long ago

Engine paint?

Just make sure you DON'T USE multi-thinners on the paint; it WILL dissolve it. That's a job only for wax and grease remover, or just a dry rag.
