2nd Generation 120000 Service?

Issue: 1991 Camry LE V6 approaching 120,000 miles. Has been dealer maintained since new with rare exceptions. The local dealers want $550-$600 for their 30,000 services around here and money is tight. I know I'm looking at spark plugs, coolant, oil/filter change, air filter and PCV valve.

Question: What else do you folks recommend? I'm leaning toward a transmission/brake fluid/filter exchange but is it necessary every 30,000? I'm pretty sure both were done at 90,000. Car has no symptoms whatsoever.

Thanks,

Musikmann

Sadly, you are looking at a lot more than that...

Unless they have been done recently, you will probably also want to do the timing belt, tensioner, idler pulleys, water pump, cam and crank seals... and maybe some other stuff.

Its not a 30k service, its a 120k service... (timing belt is due every 60k, and the water pump should be done every second timing belt if you go with OEM parts)

Other fluid changes are easy to do yourself if you have the facilities, and at this age I would suggest you do them all.

Thanks Charlie,

I neglected to mention the timing belt (and I assume the tensioner) and water pump were done at 90,000. I'm not where I can check the invoice so I don't know about the idler pulleys and cam/crank seals. There are no oil leaks of which I am aware.

Again, I appreciate your feedback,

Mm

You are in luck then.

Most of the stuff you listed is easy to do yourself (other than the spark plugs on the V6). If money is tight, you can buy all the tools and parts necessary to do the job and complete it for significantly less than the cost at the dealer.
