clicky sound from rear wheels

re: 1990 toyota camry dx 4 cylinder, front wheel drive

Alright I have two (possibly related) noises that I need diagnoses for...

1. clicking sound coming from rear wheel when I turn hard right (not mario andretti hard right, but like on/off-ramp of highway hard right)

background: I removed both rear wheels and inspected the brake pads (which were fine at about 80% life) in July of this year... ever since then there is a "click click click click" at a rate of about 2 clicks/second when I turn right. It does not do it all the time, but at least 50% of the time. It does it more consistently the greater the centripetal force. It sounds like it is coming from the rear right wheel area.
rarely it will also do it on left turns from the left wheel area.

2. This I just noticed for the first time a few weeks ago:
The sound is like what a circular saw would make if the blade came loose, but not as loud... like a clangy vibration. This noise is made in each of the gears (its an automatic) probably at about the same rpm range, but I am not positive. sometimes it does not do it, sometimes it is for less than a second and sometimes it will last up to about 2 seconds (possibly a function of my rate of acceleration). Obviously I hope its not the transmission, and I am hopeful its not since the sound is coming from the right rear wheel area again.

any ideas what these noises might be? what questions can I answer to help diagnose these problems?

Thanks a bunch

Ezra (and Rota, my reliable Toyota)

1. Sounds like you have some rust chunks inside the right rear drum or rust on the inside lip of the drum that is contacting the backing plate as the car turns and things flex just a bit. This is assuming you have rear drum brakes, since you mentioned "brake pads". Drum brakes use brake shoes, not pads. Anyway, remove that drum and inspect for rust that has fallen off and is inside the shoes or drum. Then take a file and file the rust away from the inside edge of the drum. Reinstall the drum and test drive the car.

2. Not sure what a loose blade on a circular saw would sound like so I can't offer any help there.

1. yes, they are drums. I meant to say shoes. sorry for the confusion.

2. the clangy vibration sounds similar to the sound a nail (or any other piece of metal) would make if you attached it to a spring and let it drag along a metal washboard.

it also sounds a little like the sound a mosquito makes when he buzzes near your ear... only a bit more "metallic"

Check all the heat shields under the car. One may be lose and vibrating, causing the sound you hear.
