Question Repainting Molding and Bumpers

Tried doing a search, couldn't find anything.

I was wondering if it was possible to paint the black door bumpers and the front and black bumpers.

What would be the best process? I was thinking the aerosol route.. like.. sanding them, using a basic primer, then using rustoleum. I don't want a clear coat because I like the matte look on the bumpers (at least for this car).

How's this sound?

Thanks in advance.

i'm not really sure u'd have to primer... but it'd look nicer... yeah just get like a flat black or matte black finish should be fine

Yeah I actually got Dupli-Color Truck, Van & SUV matte black spray paint. it says "ideal for trim accessories" so i grabbed it. and I got a sanding sponge to prep it. anybody know what i should wipe it down with after i sand it? I've seen pre-paint being used before on the show wheeler dealers..but i have no idea what pre-paint is.. or if that's just some weird british term..

also... to take off the bumper covers.. do i take off that long metal bar on the underside? and maybe a few bolts on the side? .. i'm almost considering just taping it up and spraying it on the car to save some hassle if i've gotta start unbolting half the car.. if it's anything like my experience in the junkyard removing the valance.......

So i tackled the task of sanding and repainting my back bumper and I think it looks great. here's some pictures of the process!

after sanding

all taped up (don't make fun of my ghetto covering, it worked perfectly!)

I decided to clean up my mudflaps while i was at it

All finished!!

I'd say it looks REALLY good for what it is. The bar that usually holds the back of the bumper cover on is off because when i was taking it off.. 4 of 6 or so bolts broke because they were so rusted (especially the ones in front of the muffler)

I used Dupli-Color Truck, Van & SUV Trim spray. It comes in a matte black and a gloss color.. and i decided to keep it stop and keep the matte look. It looks REALLY good. I really should have used some sort of filler or spray sandable primer for the exposed fiber glass.. because it still has a bit of a rough look on the spots where it was exposed.. but i can't complain.. because you don't notice it after you walk about 6 feet away.

I just redid my rear bumper as well.. mine wasnt quite as bad as the one in the pictures below but i used the dupli-color trim/bumper coating spray. It looks 100 time better still rough as you said as well.. but looks much better. going to be doing the front bumper ASAP

awesome! I'd like to see some pictures of your progress. Did you take your bumpers off? I tried.. but i just couldn't figure out those little arrow clamps that were holding them on.. so i just taped it up pretty well and painted away. Eventually I'll get around to the front bumper and side moldings.. but the rear realllllllly needed it.

Well i just used masking tape and newspaper as well.. it was easy and got every lil seam taped off so it was a even coat. the only peice that really needed it was the rear but i want the front bumper to look just as new.. unfortunately my digital camera broke and i have no way of taking a picture. but i can prob borrow one from work. and i will post it here
