Slow In First......

I have a 1989 Camry wagon, 4-cylinder 5 speed manual. When its in First gear I have to rev the engine up and then let off the clutch to get it to go like normal. I have changed plugs, Coil pack in Distr., I want to say the C-Converter is clogged? Am I right? It has 195,000 miles on it. I get very poor gas mileage.

Is it normal in the other gears? Any other symptoms? Have you done any other work to the car recently? How long ago did this start happenening - did is start suddenly or has it slowly been getting worse?

yeah all the other gears are normal and work the way they should. I have only had the car for 2 months. I guess it has always done it. The only work I have done is just the normal tune up without changing the plug wires.

How high do you have to rev it to get it to go?

slow in 1

Im not sure how high i have to rev it. I dont have an rpm guage. Its higher than normal. If i just let off the clutch and push the gas like normal, it is very slow top 15mph, so I have to let off the gas and then it will catch up in speed. Any ideas wht it could be?

Any chance the clutch is slipping?

I can't really figure out what you are describing...
