Air vane internal connections 3SFE

1988 Camry 3SFE

While a friend loaned me a spare airvane meter I took the cover off of my old one. I noticed that there was a thin jumper soldered to one of the plug terminals that just sits on its destiniation connection on the circuit board. I wish I had never touched the thing because swapping meters did not make my problem go away. So, when I put my old one back on, the car smoked heavily and would barely run. I thought about that connection, so I popped the cover off and touched it with a pencil tip. The engine ran fine then.

Now I can not trust that connection unless I find a way to secure it. I know soldering will likely ruin the IC's that are nearby on the board. Could I place a drop of super glue on this to hold it in place? My only fear with this idea so far is that the glue may seep under the connection and cause an open circuit.

Any ideas here would be great!

Tonight someone told me that there was such a thing as liquid cold solder. If there is then that would work. The board on there is small so I'd have to make sure not to create a short with a conductive adhesive. I still think a drop of super glue would do the trick just as long as it doesen't create a permanet open. Only one chance with that stuff probably.

Well, looks like nobody has braved going inside of one of these things. Luckily I had two to compare and now perhaps I can be more specific. The pin with this supposed "jumper" I mention is E2. Now that I have been able to look in another meter I have found that this "jumper" is NOT a jumper at all. All of the pins have what looks to be back up connectors soldered to them. This E2 pin for whatever reason has this thin sliver of metal running underneath VS, and touching the board. I am SO lucky that I did not tack this down because when contact is made it is a short. I verified this earlier today by sliding a piece of paper underneath where it was touching. The car ran fine.

This doesn't mean that my troubles are over as far as my original problems. I had just created an extra problem and luckily figured it out. Now I know why there was no imput from anyone. I was referring to jumpers that really don't exist, or aren't supposed to.
