Air Compressor help

Hey fellow Gen 2 drivers

I have an 89 Camry 3S-FE with air conditioning that I picked up for a steal a few months ago. Once again its just the typical story of someone picking up a car and knew they had problems. I need to do some service work on the air compressor without disconnecting and releasing freeon into the atmosphere so I was just wondering if anyone has done this before and has advice/pictures/knowledge etc of the best way to get access to the compressor pully without disconnecting any of the hoses that carry the gas.

Thank you in advance.

Don't think you can mate. You'll probably have to go to an auto leccy/air conditioning place and have them drain the system. If you're going to do that, may as well convert to 134a if it's isn't already so.

It definitely isn't 134a and I was under the impression that it required a fair bit of extra pipes, cables etc to do a 134a conversion.

We've had it repaired at on another car before (the 88) and we believe we can see the scratch marks where they have tilted/twisted the compressor so I believe it should be possible to swap clutches without removing the compressor.

You can do it, I found it easiest to remove the lower radiator hose and then you can remove the mounting bolts and get it out well enough to change the clutch/pulley. Ths hoses have rubber sections going to the compressor so there is some 'give' in them.
