Finally picked up my "free" 2G

'87 LE
226k miles.
Got it from the original owner.
Pretty in depth service history.

Got the car essentially for free. I did some minor paint/body work on another vehicle of theirs in trade. ($35 in supplies and about 6 hours of labor)

-----------------------
Replaced both side mirrors (came w/ black ones and driver side had been hacked w/ a repair)

Replaced broken passenger headlight assembly

Replaced broken driver side marker light.

Replaced RT rear molding.

Fixed loose connection in tail light.

Replaced misc bulbs here and there.

Replaced broken driver visor.

Swapped front signal lenses to clear

Power window's, locks and sunroof did not work. Found it to be a tripped circuit breaker. Reset it and now the locks and sunroof work flawlessly, but I'm having a few problems with the windows. Driver switch assembly will not control any of the windows. Applied power directly to the window motor, both ways jammed. (Need a new motor/regulator I presume). Passenger front window will roll down from it's switch but not up. Both rear windows work fine.

Passenger auto seatbelt doesn't slide back after closing door.

Horribly bad oil leaks

Minor rust spots here and there.

Engine bay was crazy dirty with oil and grease everywhere.

Trying to figure out where the oil is coming from here.

It's to the right and behind the exhaust manifold. It seems to be seeping from the top of the block somewhere.

There's also a gigantic oil leak on the firewall side of the motor that creates a puddle after the car is stopped. Will have to do some troubleshooting for that one. It's just the front one that gets me. Where the hell would it be coming from? I cleaned the whole area and can just follow it up to where the block an head meet, but can't see up in there.

Congratulations on your new ride.

When I had my '88 LE, I had an oil leak in the same location. I ended up selling the car before it got too bad (still ran fine), but I think it was the head gasket.

With all those repairs it won't be free for long. How does it run and what are you plans for it?

I'm not too worried about the multitude of repairs. Good news is the car runs great. It's a strong runner and shifts fine. Cruises down the freeway no problems at all. My biggest concern is the oil leaks, but these cars are super easy and pretty cheap to work on so that's good.

No set plans for it yet, but it will likely be a backup car to the other Camry's lol. I'm trying to keep mileage off my '08. The wife and I commute together daily 35 miles each way, but my schedule is changing so we might have to take separate cars soon. So it'd be used for that or I'd just fix a bunch of stuff on it, drive it for a bit, and sell it. I've wanted a 2G for years and years, so even if I just drive it some and restore it a bit and sell it later. I'd be a happy guy.

That's what I was hoping, but I already checked for that and it's definitely not from there.
