new gremlin..maybe?

its a 91 2.0/auto with 150000 miles...wife took it to work the other morning and it drove great...she parked it in the lot and shut it off..she decided to repark the car and tried to start it and it would barely spin...she left it and went to work...after finishing her work shift, the car started fine and drove it home with no problems...i put the voltmeter on it and its 14.2 with it running...i pull up the trouble codes on the dash and get 4-3 and 1-2..i clear the codes out and recheck and 4-3 keeps returning?....the car is starting and running great....its had a recent tune up,,plugs/cap/rotor/coil/wires...i've replaced the contacts in the starter solinoid......the book says code 4-3=starter signal-no STA signalto ecu until engine speed exceeds 800rpm...ignition switch/circuit....or ECU
..ANYONE want to to a shot at this?? thx, mike

Is it cranking over slowly or a 'no crank - no click'?

If it's the latter, then: Starter relay

When it's cranking over slow, how many amps is it drawing? What's the voltage when cranking? Could be the battery is dying, or it could be a starter is going bad. Could also be something as simple as a dirty/corroded battery terminal.

If it's pulling > 300 amps, likely a starter issue - heck, 150 is high unless it's REAL cold. Voltage < 10 under load would be a suspect battery or cables.

FWIW, Harbor Freight has a usable VOM for < $10, and a battery load tester for < $20. Many parts store will also load test your battery for a minimal charge.
