1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
yeah, but i really dont want to go with a fll manual conversion...any automatic options available for this swap/engine?
you can try an auto for a 3sge, form the older celica gt's or mr2's that were equipped with them. theres prolly loads of them at junkyards you can score
although... if you dont plan on building the engine to makes as loads of power, and keep it all stock, then your current tranny may be adequate

yeah i dont plan on making a race car, just want a turbo to make her a lil faster.
would the stock 3sfe tranny fit to the 3sgte?
If you gonna keep it stock then the auto tranny you currently have should be strong enough....if it was brand new. If not I'd suggest a rebuild.
But lets be honest....you don't get an engine like this and keep it stock for long.... do yourself a favor and convert the car to 5spd. as far as it bolting right in. Iknow mine didn't just bolt right in. There was slight modifications made to the front to rear cross member as engine mounts sit a lil bit more to the right on the GTE.. other than that you just need to get the harness made and the swap should go smooth. As long as you're using a Tranny from a Gen 2 you'll be fine. I'd recommend a Gen2 V6 5spd as you're strongest choice. Or a Gen2 4cyl 5spd if you really think you'll keep it stock.

Here's my camry ^
Current: B+G Springs, KYB GR2 Struts, Erebuni Bodykit(uninstalled), 3SGTE/E52 swap, Crane HI-6S Ignition Box, Crane Timing Retard Controller.
Plans: Here
The 3s-gte was never available with an auto trans in that motor generation, so you would have to figure out how to control the transmission and figure out what flexplate, etc. would work with the motor. It would be easier to swap to a manual (and much much better for performance!).
The motor itself will bolt in to your car with most of the FWD manual transmissions you can easily find (S51, S53, E52, E153...). You have to get the right clutch setup depending on what trans you choose.
Don't forget the rest of the hassles of the swap - wiring and intercooler piping, among other things.
All of these questions have been answered in various forms either here or on many of the different Celica forums (the Camry is essentially a longer, heavier Celica...). Motor swaps on the Celica are basically the same other than a few minor details (wiring and minor chassis differences).
