1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So this is what has been going on with my car for the last year. I started withe the engine, all forged internals Maule pistons .020 over 9to1 compression, shot peened stock rods,ARP fasteners , MLS head gasket, the block was fully prepped from individually matched cylinder bores to the ultra smooth deck for the the MLS head gasket, lightened race fly wheel, fully balanced rotating assembly, flow tested and balanced injectors, ACL race barrings. I also upgraded the inter cooler to a front mount, adding a boost gauge and wide band AFR gauge, plus a lot of maintenance items including but not limited to a new transmission. After that there were a lot of other things that I wanted to take care of so I started with a turbo upgrade to ct20b. The next thing were my rims, I could never keep the white rims clean. I went from a 17" Motegi to a 16" drag dr-31 16x7 40mm offset witch is a knock of of a Works wheel. The tires, I went from a 215/40/17 BFGoodrich kdw2 to a 225/45/16 BFGoodrich kdw2. Next was the suspension after years with a eBay coil on sleeve kit it was time to upgrade so I went with a set of Megan street dampener coil-overs for an st185 celica alltrac they bolted right in with only slight grinding of the holes in the strut tower like with white90dx and his Teins. I was even lucky enouph to win a trophy at a car show last september(best Camry, Solara or Avalon). So here are some pictures. The engine bay pics are before the coil-overs.

This is very inspiring! The car looks great and the engine swap is impressive!
Washington! I just drove my car out to NYC from Washington in Oct. Did you do all the 3sgte engine conversion work yourself? Were there any shops who helped? I'd be great to hear all about it!
Converting over to the 3sgte has been my dream!

The color is OE, the spoiler is some kind of dealer accsesory a freind found it for me in a junk yard Iv never seen one before it had a toyota part# on it but it was incompleat it looks like its been instaled on a few cars. The Megens are awsome set all the way soft their perfect for the street, their Quite a bit stiffer than stock but when you go over big bumps or potholes or whatever it is still very comfortable. The handling improvment is fantastic I used to have alot of troble keeping up with buddys in ther Subarus in the twistys I just figured it was my 20 year old grocery getter chassis but now its no problem.Ill throw some more pictures up when it stops raining, should be today though.

First I would like to thank everybody for there positive feedback on my car. It has taken a long time to get it to where is now, I got it off Craigslist six years ago for $300 it was a theft recovery.
I did all the work at my friends shop in Auburn WA called Outback Automotive,I work there part time. John at Outback built my exaust did about 90% of the wirering and welded up the intercooler pipes for me everything else I did my self including engine assembly. hears a few more pictures I had lying around, the fancy header looked cool but cracked and didnt work as well as the stock manifold anyway.

nice can i get more shots of how you ran the intercooler though ? thanks
Here are some additional shots of intercooler plumbing plus some more general pics. The intercooler pipes exit where the AC lines went to the condenser you just have to cut a peace out and there big enough for the IC pipes to go through.

It looks much better now with the FMIC on there. Did you clearance the bumper beam to get more airflow up to the intercooler? I'll be running a JDM front bumper on mine to get airflow (I'm changing to a front mount when I do the swap over to the Alltrac).
It also looks like you got rid of the battery tray? I am still trying to plan out final pipe routing. Did you look into clocking the turbo for shorter pipe routing? I will only know if it is possible/reasonable after getting the new motor, radiator, etc. into the car.

I didn't need to clearance the bumper support there was plenty of room with my A\C removed. I did think about clocking the turbo but there was some reason why I didn't and I cant remember what it was. I removed the battery tray because I didn't need it anymore and it was ugly sitting there empty.
