Tranny problem

Hello first of all, I've been a hidden guest just reading but now i need to post.
I have a 1988 auto 4dr . but kinda sceptical on what model.(power locks, windows,seat belts)
We've recently blown the radiator but wasnt able to tow and had to drive it about 5-10 miles home. we replaced it. but now think it has a blown head gasket. Besides this problem we have seen a decrease in HP. the ability to get up and go.i've got 1 opinion saying its the torque converter. does anyone know the trouble and cost im getting into?

what do you mean blown the radiator ?? was it overheating and didn't have any water but yet you kept driving it ? If it is the HG you'll be having white/blue-ish smoke out the exhuast do you have this ?? check the oil cap and see if the oil is foamy.

reason u need radiators is cause heat kills ur engine, too much heat can warp the metals, expand them and make them not fit like they should, not to mention what heat can do to ur heads. engnes are supposed to be mighty snug and tight so something warping can cause serious loss of power.even if you didnt blow you head gasket you could loose compression on over heating from cylinder taper/out or round or the rings letting blow by through

drain some of the oil to see if its milky, if it is, thats not good. check to see if you smell a very disctinct sweet smell coming from the exhaust (coolant smells odly sweet)

even if you didnt blow you head gasket you could loose compression on over heating from cylinder taper/out or round or the rings letting blow by through

try to find someone with an available cylinder compression kit and test ur cylinders to see if any of them are way bellow the pressure of the other ones. another way to see if you blew a gasket or have an internal leak is to find someone with a pressure cooker and hook it up to ur radiator and pump it up to whatever pressure ur radiator caps says it holds. if the pressure drops then you have a leak somewhere. i know some guys that buy that glow fuild that comes in a small bottle and they dump it into their engine. if it leaks, they take a black light around the motor and see where the glowing is coming from. that fluid is supposed to be harmless to ur engine. i am not aying to get a couple highlighters cut them open and dump them in ur engine. by the way when ur car is hooked to the preassure cooker (its not a real preassure cooker, thats just what we called it ) and ur motor is leaking from somewhere, it will be easy to find for the most part because you will hear it or see it, especially if it is anywhere near your radiator or radiator hoses.

I never heard of the glowing fluid but that's a very clever way of checkin for leaks! I hope I never have to use it but its good to know and keep in mind!
