Tire Chains

Hi,
Can I put tire chains on a 1990 Camry? The owners manual says nothing. I've searched and no answers.
If so, any restriction with regard to type?
I've got to go from SF to Seattle and all three states require carrying chains!! Thanks, Vic

Definitely! I used the cable type last year in the Seattle snow episode and now I switched over to the link type because it looks easier to put on.

Vic, to help provide some comfort, I grew up in washington and have done a lot of winter snow driving back and forth to eastern idaho and utah without ever needing to use chains. Although, I've always had winter studded tires on the stock steel rims.
A little note...knowing how our type of car handles on ice and snow goes a long way, plus driving slow and not being in a rush! i always try and force myself to have plenty of extra time when i have to make long road trips. google maps says 12-15 hours roughly for san fran to seattle, i would give yourself plenty of time and when the weather and roads become bad, just drive slow. i always figure its better to make it late and alive than quick and dead. plus nobody wants to see a 2nd gen damaged! hopefully the weather and roads will be great and everything here will be moot! enjoy seattle! washington is a great state! i miss it!

Check out the web site for Super Z cable chains. A link here to their installation page. Putting their chains on any vehicle is easy as pie IMO.
