Heating Issue

I searched the forums but I couldn't really find anything dealing with my issue. I couldn't find anything on google either Maybe I just suck at googling LOL.

Anyways, when I start my car (1991 Camry 3sfe) and let it idle. My temp gauge goes to normal (a little bit past 1/3 of the way). My heat works fine. But when I drive it, my temp gauge slowly starts to drop colder and colder. If I'm driving on the freeway, it'll drop pass cold to where your car is turned off. My heat also starts to cool down. The lower the temp gauge gets, the cooler it gets.

If I put my hand right next to the heater, it's warm. If I back my hands away 2-4 inches it's cool-cold air.

Any help/suggestions would be great!

+1 to what Atobe said. Seems like the thermostat is stuck open and you're radiator is in very good condition.

Check your fans too. Are they on when you start the car up?

I have to agree with the above posters. It appears that your thermostat is stuck in the open position. Replace the thermostat and properly bleed the system of air and you should be fine. Incidently, I think you will also notice that your temperature gage will now read about 1/2 way on the gage. This is normal operating temperature on most Camrys.
