Turn signals blinking randomly

I'm having issues with my turn signals not always blinking. I will flip the lever up or down and sometimes the turn signal light will be static and not blink and then other times it will start to blink but then stop and after 10 seconds it will start blinking again.

I searched through the forums and found a few posts on this subject but I could never really find anyone stating exactly what the issue was. I went to the junk yard and grabbed a new combination switch and replaced that but the issue still happens.

Is the next step to replace the flasher that is by the driver side kick panel? If so, would it be worth it for me to remove the bottom finish panel to get better access to the flasher. Some posters said it is a pain to get to it. If replacing the flasher doesn't fix the issue, what would be the next thing to look at?

Thanks for the help,

Aaron

Thanks

I replaced the flasher and now the blinkers work fine. Although I'm having another problem. When I turn the high beams on the lights turn off. When I pull back on the arm the high beams go on. The regular lights work fine, it is just the high beams. My Camry is an 88 and I installed the combination switch from a 91. Any ideas?

2nd Generation Combination Switch

The last time this happened to me and the high beams went out like that I found out that the combination switch I got from the Bone Yard was bad too.
I swapped it with yet another and waaaa laaa it was fine.

There is a little spring loaded switch behind the blinker arm that wears out commonly.

Just a note
still cheaper than a dealer

Camry Man,
Thanks for the heads up. I'm starting to think the combination switch might be the issue. So I must have overlooked this because I was so concerned with the blinkers working, but the rear lights are not coming on. When you turn the lights on the rear lights fail to come on, but when you press the brake the rear lights light up.

So the combination switch I got from the junk yard has A03 on the electrical connector and when I look at the two plugins that connect into there from the car they are labeled A07 and A08. So I think the combination switch might be incompatible.

Does anyone know if that might be what is going on?

2nd Generation Yes! Tail Light issue is Different?

With tail lights I have noticed (IT CAN ALSO BE) a few issues.
  1. The Light Failure sensor (yellow Box behind trunk wall ..drivers side) Just swap it out for a bone yard one. ..but first.....
  2. Check all the wires coming down the trunk hinge drivers side from trunk lights.
  3. FUSE & BULBS

Malayan,
Thanks for the tips. It was the light failure sensor. I replaced that and they started working. There was only on left in the bone yard too so I got lucky.

As for the high beams, The Camry Man was right. The switch I got was bad, so I grabbed a new one and now the high beams are working.

Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it, it saved me a ton of time and frustration.

Dutd33,
It is located on the drivers side in the trunk. You have to pull back the carpeting on the side and it should be just hanging there right above the rear driver side wheel well. Hope that helps. I still haven't figured out why my lights indicator is coming on. Replaced all the bulbs and couldn't find any bad wires anywhere. It might be the sensor I got from the junkyard is bad.

Hey getza1, thanks for the info.

I was reading up on some other threads. Just out of curiosity, have you checked all the sockets for the bulbs?

I'm going to replace all of the bulbs tomorrow (I've already replaced the ones in the trunk lid, now it's on to the other ones).

Yeah I checked all the sockets and they look pretty good. No corrosion and I didn't see any damage to the connections or wires.

Let me know if replacing all of your bulbs fixes your issue. I didn't have much luck with that, but at least you know what bulbs you have in there and you can at least rule that out.

Good luck.
