89 Camry transmission/clutch problem

I posted a while back about my 89 Camry but didn't get much feedback...so I'm trying again with more info.

As I was pulling out of my driveway my tranny made a clunk and I no longer had any gears. When clutch is out there is a whirring noise that quits when clutch is pressed, leading me to believe the clutch is ok...even though it was slipping. The tranny will shift into any gear with the clutch in or out and not have any effect...other than some noise when clutch is out. Is my tranny shot, or is there something I can do?

Already checked the cable linkages and they are ok.

If its the clutch, you have to pull the trans... if its the trans, you have to pull the trans...

Its hard to tell what happened from here, but the clutch disc could have exploded or something similar, or the ouput gear on the trans could have exploded...

If the clutch looks normal, its an internal trans problem, if not, replace the clutch and you are good to go.

Just thought I would update this in case someone else has the same problem.

As I was tearing into this to pull tranny to check the clutch, I found the RH CV half shaft had seperated at the wheel hub. It didn't break, the snapring came off which allowed the shaft to pull out of the outer joint. This is what caused the thump and made the thing not move.

Still need to finish pulling tranny for clutch replacement, but I feel much better knowing the tranny is ok.

I'd change both CV joints while i had them out, (if they have more then 100,000 miles on them or make any noise at all)

Yea that is my plan since I already had it out. Picked up the RH side already...just waiting on payday to pick up the other side and the clutch kit.
