You can go over to the Camry forum over at AutomotiveForums.com and download a Toyota factory service manual there for free. The manuals are stickied there at the top. Download the generation 2 manual. It will have a generation 2 wiring diagram in it.

The fuel pump is powered only when the key is in the start position or the AFM flap is open. Either one of these things will turn on the "Circuit Opening Relay" that should be located in the harness near the ECU.

When the key is turned to the "On" position without starting the car, the fuel pump does not prime with the Camry 3s-fe.

AFM = Air flow meter. It is the box with the flap inside that measures the amount of air that is going into the engine on the Camry/Celica 3s-fe (and many other Toyota motors from the '80s and '90s). It should be attached to the top half of the airbox. When the flap is slightly open or more, a switch internally keeps the fuel pump on via the circuit opening relay. The circuit opening relay also recieves power when the key is in the "start" position.

The throttle body and throttle cable do not control the fuel pump power in any way.

-Charlie

PS. You can also power the fuel pump (temporarily to check things) by connecting the "FP" and "B+" connections on the diagnostics connector.

Yes, both are correct.

The engine will not run without a working AFM (green arrow) and fuel problems and circuit opening relay problems can be debugged using the connection you showed in the diagnostic plug.

These engines had a tendency to have the coil go bad on them after many miles. The coil is located inside the distributor. I would check that first for a no spark condition. To do that you will need a digital volt/ohmeter and the specs from the manual.

Somewhere in the manual you should find the specs for the ignition coil itself. It will tell you what the resistance should be in ohms and what specific terminals to test. In the newer manuals it's in section IG. I'm not sure about the generation 2 manual.
