1990 camry engine rough

I have a 1990 4-cylinder Camry, recently i am in a trouble of engine rough. The problem is it runs rough at slow speeds/RPM, cuts out and seems to stall, actually, it stalled two times in a cold morning days ago. One thing we noticed is that when first started, it only runs the fast idle for a couple seconds before dropping down to normal idle. You just can't take off from a stop without giving it a lot of gas. At higher speeds, there is some hesitation, but it does run better. i google, bing some information and it seems to be the idle air control problems. i have no idea on this idle air control stuff. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Look at this thread on cleaning the throttle body. It has pictures including the last one showing a sqaure or diamond shaped port that leads to the idle air control valve. The idle air control valve is located under the throttle body and is connected to it via this port. Clean out your throttle body as described in this thread and spray the cleaner liberally down in to that port that leads to the idle air control valve. Spray down there first and let the cleaner soak while you clean the rest of the throttle body. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

PS: When asking for help it is a good idea to list the current mileage on the car and any maintenance done to the car, especially recent maintenance.

You will also want to check all and possibly replace the ignition system - spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap and rotor. There is a good chance that the ignition coil has a hairline crack that could be causing this issue. Check/replace that too.
