what about maintenance not listed in manual???

I'm bringing my 90 3S-FE Camry (154K) in for annual service and there is a lot that isn't listed on maintenance in the shop manual. How often to replace all the other fluids besides oil and coolant? When to replace dist cap, ignition coil, wires, thermostat, etc. I see that I had replaced the valve cover gasket along with valve clearance adjustment (not sure why), but is this along with other work prudent to do if I wish to get 300 K with this car?

Is there a general guide for these and other items? Is there a secret Toyota manual they are hiding from me? Or is it better to wait until these system start to cause trouble and then address?

thanks!

These are just my opinions...

Other fluids: every 2-4 years
Ignition cap/rotor/wires: every other spark plug change (60k)
Thermostat (and everything else near the timing belt, seals, etc., except the oil pump): every timing belt change (60k)
No need to worry about the ignition coil unless it is causing problems

Unless it was leaking, you shouldn't need to replace most other seals (though replace them if you are doing something in the area... like rear main seal when you do the clutch)

Valves shouldn't need to be adjusted after their initial check at 30k miles.

If you keep up on the regular stuff, you will see/notice all the other stuff soon and keep the car on the road running right.

At the very least, replace your fluids (oil, coolant, etc). As for the rest, use your best judgement. Toyota, like all the other manufacturers, believe the original owner would have traded or sold the car before major maintenance would be due or the car would be sent to the junkyard. If these newer vehicles weren't traded or disposed of, they would be out of business
