Wheel Bearing

I have a 91 camry DX nothing special FWD auto.

I have 240,000 miles on the wheel bearing, and even though I have no noise coming from the wheel bearings, I'm guessing they need to be replaced. They are the org. wheel bearings, as I've owned the car since new.

Can I replace the rear bearing, spindle, and hub with a 92-94 bearing hub combo with the ABS ring even though my car didn't have ABS. in short is there room for the ring to fit in the housing the hub attaches to? If not, is there away to pull the ring off, and will it fit then? I ask because it appears they don't make a spindle, bearing, and hub all in one unit for my car. I would like to just pull it off and bolt a new one on with out of having to press the spindle out, then press it back into a new bearing hub.

I don't believe the upper attachment points (to the strut) are compatible with the gen3 Camry hub. It should be cheaper to get the parts pressed on anyway (just take the parts off and have it done at a machine shop).

Thanks for the info charlie.

Can I put one of these in? Link to pic below. It's for a 92 with ABS.

If there is nothing wrong, why you want to change it? Do not do it unless it makes noises. Preventive service here does not pay you off, and even create more problems.

^ I have to agree with dvdport. It's great that you have 240,000 miles on the car, and I'm sure regular maintenance on your part has had a lot to do with that; but if nothing is wrong, leave things alone. There are many parts on a car you could just start changing out, but why do it? I'm sure you have heard the expression, "If it aint broke, don't fix it".

Good point DVDport. Tend to loss track of that thinking sometimes when doing PM work. But your right with the miles and age I may make problems trying to fix a non problem.

The reason I ask you not to do it is that I have a 90 corolla, with a bad bearing several years ago, had a shop change it.
Then this becomes a never ending issue. This shop has to change it again and again. Up to now, already 5th time. I have spent several hundred dollars already on this.
It is making noise again about 3 weeks ago. It is really a headache now. I am looking to see if I can do it myself and would like any feedback from others who did this before.

:If it works i wouldnt fix it, these bearings may outlast the car.

I had a humming noise from the rear of my 2002 V6, Camry, that i could not pinpoint. I even swapped tires, no change in the noise. I changed BOTH rear hubs (its an easy job) but they cost $125 each. The noise did not go away!
I thought about removing the new ones and cleaning them up for return, and reinstalling the old hubs - probably should have - but the car has 133,000 miles so i left them on. (Pretty costly preventive maintenance actually i thought.)

Finally i replaced 3 tires the noise went away!!!!

I figure that the noise was really tire noise. I often buy cheap tires and a lot of times i wind up with radial pull on the front tires, which drives me crazy. So i wind up swapping the tires around in front until i get a pair that wont pull.

I figure the old urban myth about NOT changing direction of rotation on used tires is no myth at all - i swapped some of the tires from one side to the other in an attempt to make it not pull, thus reversing direction of rotation. And this caused something bad to happen with the steel cords in the tires and made them make noise.
