power issues? HELP ANYONE!

soooo, recently i've had my car through the ringer. i've had electrical issues from where the wiring loom was shorting out on the intake manifold (fixed), i've had electrical issues from the alternator regulator dying a horrible death (fixed with a reco), oil was run dry by my parents when they borrowed the car (filled again), and the distributer had another oil leak in it i had fixed too. all in all the car was running fine. had the car checked over and "mechanically" she is fine. head and all gaskets are good, ringa are good, and when she runs, she runs very sweetly. however, unless i keep her under constant throttle, she conks out. this could happen going up hill, or down, i want to get this fixed as the car will be going to my sister for good soon as i'm moving to a cheaper to run rolla. help please?

We'll need a bit more info... Does it die at idle only? Or even when in gear and driving? Does it sputter? Can you catch it before it dies with the gas? A better description of the problem will help.

Also, is the motor any louder since it was run dry of oil? I would be seriously concerned about the long term health of the motor because of that issue (bearings!).

Hopefully your mechanic set timing and adjusted the idle.

if it doesnt leak any oil use sythetic oil (expensive)to get more life out of her... this will not help blown bearins though

if you have leaks then synthetic will only make the leak worse!

ok, so, no leaks, oil i use is synthetic, and when i meant running her dry, i don't mean bone dry. i just mean lower than she should be.

she will die at idle, or while driving, and sometimes i can catch her before she stalls and get her going again. i had a huge backfire issue today (actually exploded my rear exhaust box :O). i'm beginning to wonder about the mechs assessment of the block, though, the engine isn't any louder now than she ever has been.
