2nd Generation air conditioning

i already searched and couldn't find what i was looking for...

For the first time in 4 months i kicked on the ac today and the air coming out was not cold. i was driving for about an hour and a half today so it had plenty of time to get cold but it never did. on max cool ("HI" setting) with AC off it just felt like normal air. then when i turned on AC i could hear it kick in and the tach would go up a little bit (when at a stop light) but the air temperature didn't change. any insights? i really dont want to have to replace my compressor

EDIT: Just checked the fans and they both work fine.

Little cool for AC isn't it? There is a temp sensor on the cooling coil that basically won't let the cooling temp go below 40 F by cycling the compressor. Since outdoor temps are still cool, AC operation will be limited. Try using AC again when outdoor temps are warmer.

2nd Generation

it got to around 60-62 F in ohio today. is that considered cold? i would think i would notice some difference in temperature of the AC between just fan and having the AC on no matter what the outside temp is

2nd Generation

i will go ahead and check all that i can from that list tomorrow. i think my problem falls under insufficient cooling not no cooling. if i dont find the problem i will have the midas by where i live take a look at it for me then confirm what they say with my yota dealer.

Temp got that high, here in MA, only up to 40 deg. If outside temp was 60, AC should have cooled it down fast to 40 deg at the air vents. If outside temp is below 40, the fresh air coming in would have been felt by the coil sensor and little or no compressor operation would occur. Check the troubleshooting list as you stated.
