87 Camry 2.0 Manual Question About Engine Idle Dropping Down Low

Hello to all I have a 87 Camry 2.0 manual and have the following problem. Only when the car is extremely hot (been driving it a while) and then you turn off engine then try to start it again after 2 minutes or so the car will start right up but the rpm's will drop way low to 400 sometimes lower and sound like it will cut off. The problem so far is easily fixed by giving it a lot of gas then driving the car or turning the car off and starting it again. The wired thing is it only does it intermittently not all the time and only when the car is hot and has been driven a lot.
Things I have done to try to fix this. Taken off the EGR and try to clean it. It was so dirty I replaced with new EGR. After replacing the EGR it has only done the same problem 2 times again but not as bad as before replacement of EGR. However it still did it 2 times after replacing EGR which indicates to me there is another problem at hand here. The car also has a new radiator, starter, battery, alternator, thermostat, air filter, belts all, and a new radiator cap. Please advise and help me as to if someone out there on the forums knows what this problem is or has experienced a similar problem and what can be done to fix this problem. Thanks very much for you help.

What you are describing might be caused by a faulty cold-start injector time switch. You can probably check by unplugging the cold start injector electrical connection next time this happens to see if it fixes the problem. It may be hard to diagnose if the problem is intermittant as you describe.

The cold-start injector is located on the intake manifold. It has a two-pin connector (one black wire, one green wire) and a banjo fitting with a fuel line that goes to the fuel rail.

The cold-start injector time swith is located on the water outlet neck of the motor (just above the transmission). It should be red/brown (I think?) also with a two wire connector with a black wire and green wire.

The switch is supposed to supply power (actually, a ground) to the cold start injector only during startup and when the motor is cold. This can be anywhere from a few seconds (warm/hot start) to a few minutes (below freezing start).

If the cold start injector sprays fuel on a warm motor, it would cause poor running like you described. Unplugging the cold start injector (or time switch) will make starting harder, especially on a cold motor, but may lead you to solving the problem.

There is a chance the problem is in the ignition system too (plugs, wires/cap, rotor or coil).

87 Camry 2.0 5 speed question of Location of the PCV Valve.

Hello there,
Can someone please help me with a question about my 87 Camry 2.0 5 speed. I am trying to find/locate the PCV Valve and I can’t. I think the car may not have one because I looked up parts for the car and it did not list the pcv valve as a part I could get. Can someone please advise me if the car has a pcv valve and if so where exactly it is located on the engine and under the hood. I appreciate your help in this matter.
Dave

There is no PCV valve. There is a crankcase ventilation hose that goes from the valve cover to the intake manifold, but there is no valve there. Make sure it is clear and unobstructed (the hose and the ports at each end) and not leaking. No other maintenance is necessary.
