Angry Fuel Delivery Problem?

okay, well we've had some problems with the our 89' camry lately. first off, the car is a 89' camry 3s-fe, automatic sedan.
Here's the problem, car randomly dies, and wont start. then randomly, after an hour or so, starts again. The odd pattern reoccurs. Now its gotten to a point where the car just wont start most of them time. I've tested the wiring, everything electrical wise seems to be in check. NOW..I am thinking it has to do with the fuel sending. The car turns over, but just wont start. Sometime, whilst Im cranking it, the temp gauge shoots up past the red zone . My best hunches are: Fuel pump, or clogged injectors. What do you guys think? The car is pretty low-mileage, 89k on the clock. It had Driven by a grandma since new.

Cheers,

Rob

Check all the engine/battery/chassis grounds. Look/check for any loose connections elsewhere too.

Check spark first (easy), then go for fuel. You should be able to smell fuel out the exhaust if you crank it for a bit.

Is the check-engine light on when it is running?

Hey Charlie, I have checked all the connections, and grounds battery is pretty new as well. I ran my meter and the volts seem fine. When the car cranks, the yellow check engine light is burning bright.
This is a very strange problem as the car starts sometimes, and then dies, then wont start for hours on end, then starts again. I am going to check the plugs later this week, as the car is at my relatives.

While the car is cranking (or with the engine off and the key in the "on" position) the check engine light should be on. I'm wondering about if it is on when the car is running.

When it won't start, does it still crank?

What code(s) does it come up with then? That might help track down the problem.
