Front speaker replacement

I've looked everywhere, maybe I'm skipping over it, but how to I replace my front speakers inside the dashboard. There's a metal plate blocking the driver-side speaker and I see no way of getting it off.

The whole lower dash panel has to come off. It is actually pretty easy to pull it. There is a bolt behind the switch panel where the dimmer is, one right there in the metal screen you spoke of, two down below on each side, and one behind the switch panel on the right, for a total of 7 10mm bolts. It also helps to take the lower plastic kick panel off too, which will be just 2 phillips screws.

It's really not worth removing them, the one beside the glove box is PITA. Just disconnect them from the HU and leave them there. They're pretty small, like 4" or something. Just get some fibreglass door pods, remove the 'pockets' on the door trim and mount them there. Just make sure the speakers are shallow enough to be mounted

2nd Generation Fix it right

You Probably already have but if you fix it RIGHT you wont have a rattling speaker in the door that the window regulator keeps hitting and the dash mounts sound way better to me.

Take the old speakers with you and

Get the right size and they wll fit. you might need to round out the holes in the after market speakers to fit perfect.
I did this to mine and they sounded great and the door panels are not all torn up!

i removed the stock two front 3.5" speakers which aim/fire at the driver/passenger knees and put 6.5" components in the doors.

the stock speakers are housed in plastic plus require the removal of a lot of bolts to access them. i was happy to remove and replace them. \
i currently jl audio components in the doors which fit nicely. if installing in the doors, as mentioned above, check the depth of the driver. mine currently components and previous polk/momo components never interfere with the power windows. i had to remove the stock pockets on the doors to put the component drivers, but i never used the pockets anyway and the improved sound quality/power was worth it to me. there are pics on my site, linked in my signature.
