Need help with AC compressor

I recently discharged my AC in order to change the heater core. I'm now trying to retrofit it with R134 but I've noticed my compressor isn't kicking on when I turn the AC on. Any reason for this other than a bad compressor? I've checked the connections and fuses and they're good. There is a a circuit breaker for the Environmental control system in the kick panel, but I don't know how to tell if it's good. Thanks.

I JUMPED THE COMPRESSOR FROM THE BATTERY AND IT RAN. IT TOOK 3 CANS TO FILL IT AND IT RUNS FINE NOW. I GUESS IT WON'T RUN WITHOUT ANY REFRIDGERANT IN IT.

did you evacuate it and put pag oil in it and you will have to change the drier too
