Exclamation Air filter?

So my air filter is kind of dirty and its about time to replace it.

Now the question is... Do I go with a $10 Filter thats good for about 10k miles?

Or do I go with a K&N Filter thats washable and should be good for the life of the car for $30?

What do you guys think? Any other specific brand recommendations?

K & N is waste of money;
I saw the failure of Fram air & STP (filtres fell apart and fragments got sucked into intake
Purolator or Beck-Arnley most likely the best aftermarket ones

i have far less experience and knowledge about vehicles than doctor j. in fact, i wish i lived near doctor j and could learn from him directly!!!

with that disclaimer out there, im gonna contradict him saying k&n is a waste of money. if the k&n filter costs $40 and the cleaner kit, $20. thats $60 total and the cleaner kit should last for quite a few cleanings. everybody can do their own math, but k&n worked out well for me over the long run...until i did the cold air intake group buy on here years ago and replace the stock air filter with a k&n cone air filter...

if you don't plan on having the k&n air filter or the car for very long, its not worth it. it'll probably take at least 5-6 stock air filter replacements, depending where you live with pricing and how long it takes to become dirty, before the k&n pays for itself.

Yea I'd agree, if you plan on keeping the car for 30 K&N would be a good buy. I'm running a K&N on my camry and it's great, don't feel any increase in power or anything like that but I think it's pretty good. Having said that if you do re-oil your filter in the future make sure you keep your old filter cause I've herd of lots of people not allowing the oil on the filter to dry all the way and it coats their MAF sensor which causes problems. So I drop my stock filter in for a day or two to allow my K&N to dry fully before I reinstall it. But if your looking for just a quick drop in purolator is the way to go, decently priced, good quality, and readily available. Hope this helps Eric

My negative statement about K&N is mainly based because of the claim that it helps to gain the more horsepower.
In my opinion I would be against of using "performance" upgrade stuff on the older engine that accumulated miles and wear.
