rear light-out-indicator intermitent

Hello

'89 toyota 2.0 FWD, US built

All rear lights work but when the headlights are on the light-out-indicator comes on. After a couple minutes this indicator will start to flicker and then go out but when the brakes are pressed the indicator comes on again until the brakes are released. Any ideas? All lights in back are bright and work. Even the 3rd brake light.

Is this a wagon or a sedan? if it is a sedan it sounds like the wiring my be frayed on the trunk lid so check that first. Let me know if this helps. You deffinaly have a grounding out isses somewhere in the electrical

the indicator light dosent just mean theres a light out in the back of the car, its telling you theres a light out sumonewhere on the car, eithere loose out of its socket.(had that on some cars, itlll be on when parked but when i test drive it goes off on corners and bumps) . side markers, some camrys and corollas have dual fron marker lights one for turning and parking light the other for parking light. check each and every light bulb , one can be fried and the iron is prob still making contact when the vehicle is shifted. tell me if this helps at all , give me a thanks if it does======================>>>>>
third brake light are a issue too sometimes they take a diffrent bulb or two bulbs if its a 194.

Thanks for the input fellas.

This car is a sedan.

Lights all around work and the car manual says it is a rear light out indicator.

I will check all over for grounding issues though.

The gen2 Camry sensor is only for rear 5 parking/brake lights. (no side markers, turn signals or reverse lights are in that circuit)

First, check all the sockets and bulbs for corrosion or possible problems. It would be best to just replace all 4 brake/parking bulbs and the center rear brake light.

If the problem keeps happening, look for any possible wiring problems - as mentioned before, the trunk lid wiring is a popular spot for problems. I had an intermittant connection on the center brake light on my first Camry.

Also, the warning light should stay lit for the duration that the car is on after it illuminates. That points to a possible failure of the sensor box itself. It is located behind the trunk trim on the drivers side (sort of near where the fuel filler is). Check for burned components inside if you can. New replacements are very expensive, but you can also get lucky at the junkyards for much cheaper.

I have an 88 LE 2.0. When I pulled the left rear light assembly (from inside the trunk) I had a bad ground next to the light socket. I fixed it and problem solved.
