Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Has anyone removed the side trim on their Gen 2? A friend suggested this to make the car look cleaner. I blew it off at first but have to admit the idea is growing on me.
Anyone done this and have a picture?
mine rusted off...looked horrible. from seeing the way that it attached you may have a problem with covering up the attachment clips when you take them off. they rivet into the body or something. can't quite remember

If they were drilled into the body I'll probably leave 'em alone then.
By side trim you mean that black rubber along the side of the body? I think they used double sided foam on mine. However, the rear is starting to lift and it seems as though i'd look better with it on. If yours is too, you can get a heat gun and some dental floss to remove it. Cutting it with a blade will leave that foam there.
Not to mention, that slight indentation moulding is going to be quite visible.

^^^^^ Yes, the stuff running the length of the body down the middle.
I realize the channel will be really visible, that's why I'm trying to see if anyone's done it and has pictures. Not sure how it would look, and I'd hate to do it and decide I don't like it.

Judging by the picture You posted of the car it seems to be in great shape. I would leave the rubber trim alone. Keep the original stock look. JMHO.
^^ Other than needing a little paint work on the hood and driver's door, the car looks good. Just thinking of doing something a little different with it.
There are holes behind the body side moulding. I think it would look pretty good with the moulding removed and the channel removed/smoothed and painted...
