Speedometer not working

1988 toyota camry 2.5L 2vz-fe AT

Hello everyone. I just got this car running and am very pleased with owning another toyota.

So i just assumed that the speedometer would never work and gave up and the idea of fixing it, but while i was driving the other day, BAM, it sprung back to life for about half a mile before dieing again. So i continued driving that weekend, it was about a 200 mile trip, and with the speedometer working on and off, the trip odometer gained about 15miles.

I did notice that the functioning of the speedometer/odometer was dependent sometimes on weither or not i would hit a bump in the road or not.

So i was looking today around the transmistion and i cannot find the cable that everyone else mentions in their posts. I am thinking that this cable is loose and just a lil tightening would solve my problem.

The speedometer cable is coming out of the top of differential housing.
It has thermal insulation 1/2 inch diameter or larger.
it runs near exhaust crossover pipe under distributor
