1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have 1988 3S-FE 5 Spd camry wagon and love it, but the rust is so bad it is dangerous to drive and not really repairable. I posted on here a while ago and some said look for a donor.
Well I think I found it. I'm not asking "is this a good price." I know it is absurd, but I want the car. I've looked around and the pickings are slim. Not really anything I want. This car is a few miles from me, and it is MINT! The only rust is the bottom of the driver fender, but I have spares. Mechanically it is good, CV are starting to crack. I have many new parts on my car I plan to swap.
The car is a 1990 3S-FE auto, Baby blue ext, blue int. $3,000 with 80,770 miles. I hate the color, but I'm willing to paint it. I also want to swap in my manual trans. This is what I want and I know it is a lot of work, but I will do it. I'm going to offer $2,500 and hope to settle on $2,700. There is a list and I'm at the top. Three other people are looking at it, strange. I need to decide tomorrow.
What can I do for the interior. My current car is burgundy and worn. I will need to swap some of the parts that go with the manual trans stuff. What can I do to change the color of the interior. I think painting the dash and other vinyl would work. But what about the carpet? The seats could get re-upholstered, but if I could take the covers off and dye them in the washer I would, take them to the laundry mat and do it.

Blue is my favorite gen2 interior... might as well keep it. The only thing you will have to find is a blue shift boot - or you can buy a universal black or blue leather boot and stretch it over your stock plastic boot frame.
The manual trans swap has been done, and if you have two working cars to start with, it shouldn't be too difficult.

I'm a ways off from doing any of the actual work. At the moment I have many irons in the fire. I will have to do something with the shift boot along with the center console which it attaches to. The dash is also a little different. The automatic has the gear selection lights, manual doesn't need that. So the small plug would also be the wrong color.

The manual shift boot pops into the same opening that the auto shift selector sits in. No problems there.
Grab the right colored shift indicator plug from a junkyard, or even just leave it as-is. Done.
