No power to cold start injector

'89 Toyota Camry, 2.0 , U.S. built

Hello All,

Because of intermittent starting problems I ran a wire directly from the positive terminal of battery through a 12v 15 amp push button switch on my dash to the terminal on the solenoid.

The car usually starts on the 2nd crank with push button. I am thinking that because the ignition is only in the run position that there is no current going to the cold start injector. Should I be running another wire from my new switch somewhere for the cold start injector?

look at your dash, there are 4 sets of lights that need to be on in order for your starter to work. the check engine, temp, oil and battery light should be on. if you only have two sets on lights on and the other two not on, then your ignition switch is missing a step.

if your ignition switch is bad you can take it apart and clean it (sometimes helps) but take it apart slowly so the springs don't go flying never to be seen again. you can also hack your ignition switch up and make a two step push button ignition setup like i had to in mine since I was driving around hot wired prior to the push button setup.

also doesn't hurt do make sure your CSS or NSS depending on your tranny are engaging correctly. I didnt follow that rule once and ended up replacing a starter and ignition switch once only to find out that my driver side carpet was sliding under my clutch pedal creating just enough space for my CSS to not engage therefor the car not start unless puss started....ooops. hope that helped any if not I'm sure someone will.

You should splice the wire from the pushbutton to the existing wire on solenoid terminal, or better install relay as described in DIY thread on the top of the forum
