I have a 3sfe matched to a 5 speed. good fun. I don't have a tach though, not so good fun. I have read about some of the guys here sticking the v6 with 150mph limit cluster in here but from what I have read, seem's to turn into a cluster fuck real quick with lights not working and tach being off. In that case, I'm better off stock. I have seen the 4cyl clusters with the tach and a speedo good upto 130. thats fine with me, besides I doubt I will ever run higher than 110 anyway. If I am not mistaken I have heard that the cars without the tach have the tach hookup just hangin out behind the cluster, so if I do get a 3sfe instrument cluster, would it be possible to just hook the connector to the tach??
Also, my main reason to change cluster would be for tach. I would love to have oil pressure gauge but I am not sure any of the clusters have them, am I mistaken?
I am either considering making my own gauge pod with a tach, oil preassure gauge and air/fuel gauge, or just getting the 4cyl with the tach. Is there a oil preassure sending unit hookup on these blocks that I can hook a gauge to?
Thanks for your times. No I am not trying to rice out my hood or feel like I got more power than I actually do by adding a big amount of gauges, I just feel naked without a tach and a oil pressure and volt gauge, and that is mainly cause I tend to depend on them for diagnostic reasons.
it's already wired up to the cluster harness it just goes to nothing on your cluster... just get one with a tach plug it in and it'll work. if you get the v6 ones..150mph one the rpm will be off... i've done an oil pressure gauge search for it

awesome dude, that is real good to know. I've found some mighty cheap clusters on Ebay, pluss I doubt I would have to throw down more than 30 bucks on one with a tach from the junkyard. and you said you did a oil preassure gauge search as in you went looking for gauges or you found a cluster that has a gauge for oil preassure?thanks man.
The Camry did not have an oil pressure gauge or a voltmeter gauge either in the instrument cluster. These gauges were reserved for the trucks, their sportier cars (ie Supra, Celica) and the 81-84 Cressida.

good to know, might hook something up one day, but the problem with that is when I get into a project like that, I tend to go apeshit with it. Usually starts with hittin the summit magazine up lookin prices, next thing I know im justifying buying shit I know i don't need lol. info helped alot though guys, thanks.
As others have said, as long as the new cluster matches the motor of your car, you will be fine. There aren't any extra plugs or anything on the back.
There is even a pretty good chance that you can pull out the speedo section of your current cluster and put it in the cluster with tach and you will get to keep your current odometer reading and everything (possibly important for insurance/inspection/smog reasons).

How many different clusters were available for the 4 cylinder? Any one have picture examples?
That is good information to know that there is a good chance I can switch the odometer section of the cluster. I would like to retain that on my '90 4 cylinder.
I've had a '90 V6 auto with tach, I have a '88 4 cylinder manual with tach and '90 4 cylinder auto with out tach.
The think I liked about the V6 cluster was the MPH increments seemed normal. But the '88 have a different set up, the number listed are by multiples of 20 and the tick marks count for 2 MPH, in the beginning this was strange to get used to.
I just learned something from this thread that I didn't want to hear....
I had no idea that the V-6 cluster would be "off" if used on my 4-banger! I just got excited yesterday when I found one! And yes, it WAS a V-6 car I got it from. I know that because even though the engine was gone, the grill was still there and I got the V-6 emblem off of it (just to be cool/funny).
Now you folks have me curious. I haven't gone anywhere since I changed my cluster. I just noticed the idle speed on the tach seemed perfect. Now I'm going to run out and drive the car and see how far off it seems. I'll check the speedo too with my GPS. My original speedo was off already, but about 5 mph at freeway speeds. Not too concerned about speedo accuracy, but I want the tach to be accurate. Guess I'll hook up a regular tach and compare them.
