Hello fellas,
new guy here, just put a deposit on a 1991 ES250 for a winter car for the gf and I. Read that they were reliable and seemed to be luxurious (we are used to that) so i randomly came upon one.
160kms, white on tan (good shape). Plans are to fix the rust on it and throw some winters on it and maybe HID's.
One question I wasn't able to find by searching on this board is how to disable the DRL? Is it a fuse, relay, wiring that needs to be touched to disable them?
Here is a pic. Will post some of the rust repair.
Why would you want to disable the daytime running lights? As for the rust, best thing is to replace the fenders. If you don't, they will eventually rust through at the bottom and rot out the rocker panels. There is likely rust down there right now you just can't see it. Fenders for these cars are not expensive at all
BTW, I've always wanted to own an ES250 I really like them, partly because they are so rare. Never been able to find one for sale that was not beat all to hell and back.
edit - I just found the car on autotrader.ca, better buy it before I do! lol.

Hi,
let's not get into a discussion over why I want the DRL's off. Every car I've owned, the DRL's were disabled on, just had my bmw done.
I tried to source a fender locally, but nothing yet. I was mainly referring tot he rear quarters, the right side is quite a bit worse than anywhere else on the car sadly
I had no idea they were rare until I wiki'd the car to get more info on it (specs, reviews, etc).
This one looks (except the rust) to have been maintained very well, lots of new parts and maintenance done to it over the last 4 years. Hopefully it turns out to be a cheap/reliable commuter for the next while.
Still on the hunt for disabling the DRL's, will post if I find something and will make a new post here.

you might get a better opinion if you post this in the correct thread: the Lexus one. I know Camrys but nothing about Lexus. Other than my normal knowledge of cars. Just a suggestion, but it might help you more. The Lexus thread has a bunch of members who own, drive or work on them. But the Camry (although Toyota makes Lexus) is not a Lexus, and therefore you might not find your answers in this thread.

But good luck anyway.
the car is the same thing as the camry prominient which is similar to the sv21. nice car
oh. So basically everything Camry applies to the ES250? Okay, that makes it easier. Because I certainly don't know much about Lexus other than I've always wanted an SC400 (but I'd settle for an LS400) but will never have one. LOL! I don't like the newer generations of Lexus as much as the previous. But I would totally love to have any generation of IS model. That's cool that the ES250 is the same as a Camry, but I don't plan on going to the Lexus thread anytime soon and asking Camry questions. Wouldn't want someone to make the suggestion I did to you. I was just reading about the ES250 and Prominient (a hardtop sold only in Japan). Interesting stuff I found out, and how many different names the Camry got in other countries.
Unfortunately the lexus part of the forum is dead . I've been relentlessly searching the net, I've only come up with two possible solutions (one mentioned at the beginning of the thread).
Picked up the car last night, will try to see if I can figure it out. Going to try and source a fender as well.

well, I was just looking at another 1990 Camry wiring diagram and it shows the Running Light Relay (again, Canada only) to be behind the radio. Now even I am confused. Hope you figure it out.
Reopening this thread to help out the OP. Please keep things on topic, guys!

I read the posts before they got deleted, and I want to address a few things.
First, I was in no way trying to sound like a douche, with regards to my "luxury" comment...I merely meant I've owned luxury cars (a long list) exclusively and this fits the bill of having the "extra" an upscale model comes with...in no way was I trying to brag about my new cheap purchase..I am sorry if it came out that way.
As for Hairball, I appreciate your help and there is no hard feelings whatsoever.
The car is officially on the road now...will start work on it soon and post pictures.

Does it really matter? Both get you where you want to go, hopefully, safely and reliably.
You're in Ontario, just so you know it's illegal to disable your DRL on a car that came with them... as long as you know you could face a decent pocket-hurting fine for doing it, then keep on searching.
If there is a DIY for the same year Camry's, it should apply to your car as well... I think I saw that car on Kijiji... was it in Durham region somewhere?
I've had all of my car's DRL's disabled, some where as new as 2002. Never had ANY problems. Regardless, it is a small price to pay for me as I hate DRL's.
I got my hands on a chilton manual and also with the help of what I have found here, I am hoping to get my hands on it tomorrow. First, I need to run to a local yard to grab a rear tail lights module...for some reason mine stopped working.
Going to take it to a friend of a friends, see if he can do the body work cheap, if not, I will do it myself. (ive done 1 or 2 cars in the past and came out ok).
No, not the one in Durham, that one was too far for me to sneak away to see...this one was located close to my work, downtown. The gold one in DUrham does look in better shape rust wise, but I am not sure if the guy has done any maintenance work or if he is flexible on his price.
