91 camry wont start!

the car was running and driving before. the fuel filter i had just changed the car was running fine on idle but was sputtering while i was flooring it because the fuel filter wasnt fully tightened so i tightened it up that was later, but the first problem was when i got it home it wouldnt start again well one starter bolt broke in the transmission housing so i drilled that out because i thought it was the starter. all the car is doing i can hear it pushing the engine over and over but it wont start... i took the #1 cyl plug out and put it on the exhaust manifold and it sparked. and when i pulled all the plugs out it was flooded. well that was yesterday i put a new battery in today same results. i put the new battery in hopes it was not getting enough spark i just dont know what to do now.

What color is the spark? Is it blue (indicating a good spark) or orange (indicating a weak spark)? How many miles are on this car? Does the engine turn over at what seems like normal cranking speed or is it turning over at what seems like a faster than normal speed?

Mike

you really need to check the spark again & check the color & consistancy of it.
A pick up coil in the distribuotor & coli can act a lil wierd at random times.

Check any areas you worked around for something obvious.

You should also check the codes. If the battery has just been installed, crank the car over for about 15 seconds ( it supposedly only takes 4 sec.) the cpu will tell you why its not starting sometimes.

if you have a good blue spark and smell of gas rose when plugs were removed, next you check timing and ensure the plug wires are goin to the correct cylinders if all is good there do a compression test and if that checks out pull the valve cover and check for a screwed up cam (ohc only obviously) or that the rocker arms are moving. That should keep ya busy hope its atleast an easy fix or something

it should be an easy fix like i said nothing was touched everything should work it should start... i got the car to get home so i could tighten up the new fuel filter and parked the car crooked so i tryed to turn it directly back on right after i started it, but the starter only had one bolt so i thought it was the starter, im thinking it was the starter but now its something else so i guess ill try the cranking for 15sec thing when i get the starter back.

maybe possible you have some kind of air lock due to the filter not being tight maybe suck ed air?

if your getting spark than the timing belt is still connected or the distributor rotor wouldnt turn.

Maybe the timing belt jumped?

just throwing ideas out there. does it sound normal when cranking, like a steady rrrrrrrr(insert normal engine cranking sounds here)

or cranking faster & slower oscillating?
