Oil Light Not Lighting

This morning as i entered the key into the ignition and switched it to the on position... i noted the oil light didn't come on... i started teh engine and nothing... i popped the hood and checked if the wire was still connected ot the pressure sensor... and it was ok

i shut the engine off and tried again... and the light came on just for a fraction of a second ....

now this evening it did the same thing leaving work... as i started the engine... it came but just barely ...then went off...

I'm thinking the pressure switch is going... but is the car safe to drive... i have to make an out of town trip tomorrow night and i would hate to damage anything...

Thats just an idiot light. Chances are youll be fine. You probably have a switch goin out or a bad connection.
I would just keep a close eye on your oil level especially if you have leaks, but go & do what ya gotta do

Just grab a replacement switch from the auto parts store when you get a chance... it should be cheap.

2nd Generation

Quick and easy test.

Unplug the oil switch the bulb should come on.

If the light comes on steady then the switch is going bad.

If the light doesn't come on the you have a bad bulb in the dash.

Granted it is an idiot light but helpful should the oil pump fail.

It's the other way around... touch the wire for the oil pressure switch to the motor (ground) and see if the light turns on. If the switch is unplugged, the light will never turn on.
