2nd Generation 89 camry LE v6 trans issue

hi there...i been searching through the forums to see if i could find a thread with a similar issue as mine...but alas i couldnt...

i just picked up a pretty nice camry that i plan on using as a DD...the only thing is i need to resolve this auto trans issue...everything else runs as it should and this motor purrs...what im having problems with is when i first put it in to D and press the gas the trans pretty much slides all through first gear up to around 15mph (the best way i could explain this is...if you ever drove manual and you let the clutch out slowly but you reved out the engine...you would move forward...but slowly...i hope that makes sense)...once the car shifts to second (around 16-20mph) then the issue disappears...it only does this in first gear...at dead stops if you were to just gun it...it would boogie quickly to second gear but you still feel that slide (like you know youre supposed to be going faster at that rpms...if that makes sense also)...

i was planning on putting in some lucas transmission fix tomorrow to see if there was any change...would this be a solution?? i heard some good things from lucas...i know that putting a bandaid isnt gonna fix a broken leg...but to me it just feels like it may be just a cut instead of leg trauma LOL...please any advice will be well taken...sorry for the long post and thanks in advance...

pretty much the same thing...thats why i just leave it in D so it shifts to second then the less i have to worry about it...after i install the new alt tomorrow im gonna see how that lucas trans oil settled in by taking it around the block

on a side note...i saw your coilovered cam...that car is frickin nice...it kinda inspired me to get this car up and running so i can quit racking mileage on my xrunner...is it possible to PM me a list of parts that you used to get the celica coilovers to work for you?? thanks in advance

Transmission fluid

What does the transmission fluid look like? Does it smell burnt? Sounds like it is slipping in low gear.

You might want to drop the pan and install a new filter and then refill with fresh fluid.
