Hard brakes when cold

Hello,

Whenever it is cold out, my 91 camry will sometimes have a stiff brake pedal which I will have to pump several times to stop the car. It only happens at a cold start such as when backing out of the drive way in the morning or after work. The brakes will function if I pump them. I tried searching the forum but came up empty. I have read on subura and nissan forums about the brake booster check valve getting moisture in it and freezing. Is this the same problem; has anybody fixed this on the Camry?

Thanks

Usually this can be caused by ice on the brake rotors, frozen rear brakes and too much water in the brake fluid.

If you aren't much of a mechanic, I would take it somewhere and have them flush the brakes. It sounds like fluid in the lines or, as mentioned, frozen calipers.

The brakes on our Jeep have frozen down a few times as well.
