2nd Generation Fittment Questions - 17inch rims on a 1.5'' Drop

My question is what is the widest rim size and offset i can go with on the camry to get a deep dish look on the rims. I have a nice sized polished lip on 7 inch wide rims now but i want more of a lip.

Im going to run 17's on my 1.5'' Intrax Drop and i want the widest rim size possible with the biggest lip possible. Im looking at going with an old school JDM style like Work Wheels mesh or something along those lines.

Let me know if anyone can help.

It all depends on how crazy you want to go. Nobody has really pushed it very far yet. I'm not going there, as I'm more interested in performance and daily drivability.

If you get coilovers with camber plates front and rear, roll the fenders a good amount and stretch some tire, you could get something interesting going...

What I would suggest you do is measure out what you currently have in terms of wheels and see how far you can take it front and rear. If you get staggered wheels, you could probably get an extra 0.5" or more lip in the rear as you don't have to clear a brake caliper.

may be you can do 7.5" wide i'm not really sure.
http://img257.imageshack.us/i/img01043.jpg/ i was messing around with this 17x7 today. it was +20 offset it was flush with the rear fenders...mines are rolled but i didn't have any rubbings .. of course it sticks out on the front. so around +35 for the fronts would be good.

7 inch wide upfront with a 38 offset is flush with stock camber settings. with negative camber you can be at 7 inch wide up front with probably +30 offset and be flush.

i have the measurements in my other phone but i measured all the distances i think are important to getting a flush set of wheels. based on the stock fenders and my measurements, you can go 7.5 upfront and 9 in the back i have to look up the offsets needed though. I'm definitely going for flushness with my car hence why i'm getting camber plates made specific for this platform but i can tell you now. the look ur going for. lowering springs ain't gonna make it. also if you're stock body. 17's are too big. this car without a body kit needs to be slammed on wide 16's to look good.

I am happy to see more Gen 2 going for the look though. i figured it would happen cause people are tired of seeing the same platforms.

well 16s are a possibility. a larger possibility actually. they are a little cheaper and so are tires.

id be fine with 16s. i just want an aggressive stance, flush with the stock fenders, not rolled, and no body kit, im not into that.

coilover retrofit may be an option for the summer, but for right now im stickin with springs until my 3000gt is finished. thats gonna have a super aggressive stance haha

Well, if you don't want to push things:

This is my Alltrac with 17x7.5" wheels with 215/40/17 Nitto NeoGen's. Compared to how they would fit on a stock FWD Camry, they are 38mm front offset and 18mm rear offset. (techincally, they are 48mm offset with 10mm front spacer and 30mm wider rear due to suspension changes) The rear fenders are rolled because there is a pretty big lip in there if you don't.

I have since taken off the annoying black trim around the wheel well and it looks even more flush, though its a bit hard to see in this picture:

If you want to be 'flush' in the hella flush sense, you'd need to push it out at least another 5-10mm. If you just want it to look good, then yes.

Also, you should get 38mm offset all around and go with a 20mm spacer for the rear unless you are willing to forgo the ability to rotate your tires...

Ha! Sounds like you don't understand the 'hella flush' movement.

This is tame for hellaflush:

And this is what they are really going for:

Cool, but not daily driver friendly.

definitely not daily driver friendly but i'm gonna do it.

***Gen2 overview on getting flush

spacers will actually add negative offset to a wheel, for instance putting a 10mm spacer on a 17x7 38mm offset will actually make that a 17x7 28mm offset,

if a wheel sticks one inch past your fender you will in theory need 3-4 degrees of negative camber to bring the lip close to your fender.

offsets needed for flush/fitted on a gen2 give or take a few mm
this is measured using a kyb gr2 strut at ride height

front wheel well
Front Disk Brakes
inch" / offset
9" / +20
8.5" / +13
8" / +7
7.5" / 0
7" / -5

rear wheel well
rear drums
9.5" / +32
9" / +25
8.5" / +19
8" / +12
7.5" / +6
7" / 0

yes you're seeing correct, higher offsets are needed in the back because the mounting surface is actually closer to the fender in the rear with the drum brakes. with disks the rear offsets needed may be different. however to get more lip in the rear just run staggered sizes. smaller width up front obviously.

hope that helps. my next set of wheels i'm looking at are probably gonna be
17x8+5 17x9+5 5x114.3 or around there. now because we have 5x100 i'm going to need adapters. the adapters double as 15mm spacers. so in essence those sizes will be come 17x8-10 17x9-10. so looking at the chart of offsets up there i'm gonna be 17mm out of my front fender and 35mm out of my rear fender. up front that's easily fixable once i have the camber plates made. Out back it's gonna take some body work (read: fender pull) and camber. how i'll get that camber... I dunno yet. When I get to that bridge i'll cross it.lol

keep in mind these measurements were made with a ruler. at the end of the day the only way you're achieving nice stance and fitment is buying wheels and making them fit. Good Luck.
