The differential case leaks

My car is my 1989 camry wagon auto 2vzfe engine.
The mechanic discovered the differential case empty.
He filled it until the fluid came out of the filler hole.
For a week there was some fluid on the ground everyday.
The mechanic checked the differential case.
He said there is no leak on it.
Where is fluid leaking from ?

Could be a cv shaft seal is leaking... Those can be hard to spot.

Last time the mechanic did not seem to check it out there from underneath, maybe he neglected it.
I want to check it myself.
Is there a way to check it ?

Just look at the areas where the CV shafts go into the transaxle assembly.

Today I checked the differential case, transmission pan, LH cv shaft and RH shaft. There are no leak. I discovered a small hole made by Toyota. It was set just between the differential case and transmission pan. It is wet with red fluid. Maybe the fluid is coming from this hole. What is this hole for ?

Sounds to me like something was meant to be in that hole.

It's a pressure vent. Check the level of trans fluid, it may be too high.

I check the fluid level every week.
It is normal.
There was no puddle.
Last week after the mechanic filled the fluid in the dfferential case.
I could see he had put in more than 1.1 qts.
There is a puddle everyday since then.

Are you checking the transmission of the differential? The transmission you'd check via the dipstick. To check the differential, you'd have to jack up the car, remove the plug and stick something L shaped in the hole. If you're really checking the differential on a weekly basis, you're a better man than I am.

If you could post a picture of the hole mentioned in one of your posts, you could get some better answers.

Good Luck

Under the hole is the transmission pan.
On the left side of the hole is the differential case.
On the pic you can see fluid is coming out of it.

Hopefully someone more familiar with these will provide a definitive answer for you.
I'd guess that hole was drilled to create some internal passage in the casting and was then plugged w/ a brass plug.
