2nd Generation E-Shop shop Manuals- Worth the money ?

I like to have in my hands the factory shop manual for whatever I happen to be working on at the time. When I price out a factory repair manual for my 1990 Camry, I have not found one for under $60.00, considering that’s
60 X’s more than I paid for the car I am having a problem parting with the cash.

I have ordered a Haynes, I have had good luck with them in the past, but I realize this will car will be a project for me so I would like obtain additional information as well.

I have seen adds for electronic DVD manuals but I have not or do I know anyone who has used a download manual, so the question are they user friendly?
And informative?

I actually prefer the electronic version.

1. its way cheaper
2. you can print it out as much or little as you need on a per time basis(ya drop some oil on the page, no problem)
3. Its more portable
4. always on your computer

And my favorite reason of all

5.The e version (pdf) makes searching a whole lot faster.

BUT

A book never crashes or gets infected w/ a virus...
thats the only positive I can think of for the hard cover book.

I suppose it would look & last longer than my printed out in a binder version, but I can print another.

Yes. They were available for download as a PDF somewhere. I do not believe that they were hosted here though

D-Hand thanks for the tip I have located some.

I have a Question for you, your 78' FJ has open diffs, what might those be & how do they work ?

I once owned a 76' FJ, that I dropped a 300HP 350ci small block into, if I had a do over I would have stroked it out to a 383ci. It was the sweetest rig I ever owned, it was stolen, stripped and the frame (@ the frame horns) was cut in half = totaled. Not a week goes by that I don't miss her & that was over three decades ago. Should be a country western song in there somewhere…

Maybe PM some Pic's of your's ?

I just meant to say that I wheel my rig without differential lockers.

I could pm you some pics of my cruiser. I'm also on WWW.ih8mud.com with the same username as well.
Its not too late to get yourself another fj40, they can be had relatively cheap depending on how well you can turn a wrench and whacountry of the country your in. Your story is worth a country song!

In the future I'd like to get a fj45 and drop in a newer Toyota diesel engine.

If it is a factory shop manual, and not a service manual you scored.
