2nd Generation Fan stopped working completely, but blower motor tests ok

Hi, thanks for the excellent info in these threads related to blower motors and resistors for 1991 camry's. The problem i'm having is slightly different:

ALL fan speeds fail to run the blower motor, although i hear a clicking on the passenger side when i press on the different fan speed buttons.
I removed the blower motor and tested it on my battery, works fine!(?)

seems like the resistors are ok, when i looked they were black but not broken.

the heater seems to be working, i can defrost a bit when driving over 60km/h.

what else could it be? i noticed under the hood in the main fuse box, there's a fan relay (silver cylinder), which i haven't tested yet.
i have no idea if there's some other kind of switch, i could check or where that would be.

any help would be appreciated!!!

Hmmm... Have you recently tampered with anything in the vehicle.

Sounds like power is not getting to the motor.

1)Inspect and replace all popped fuses for both inside and outside fuse panels

2)Remove connector from blower motor. Connect test light to a body ground (a bolt going into the sheet metal). Then command the fan on using the panel. Probe the connector and it should like at one of the two pins. If it does not. Power is not getting to fan. If it does light, than you have some type of ground issue.

If it were a ground problem, you would probably have other things malfunctioning.

Good luck

The fan relay you are looking at, I believe, is for the radiator cooling fan. You will want to look inside for the fuses. It should be called "blower". Good luck

It's still possible the resistor is completely shot. If you have a digital volt/ohmeter and a manual, there should be a procedure for testing it. It's very easy to remove for testing and/or replacing.

Thank you for the solutions guys!

when i put the motor back in after testing it, it worked for another week,
and crapped out again so i gave the motor a medium kick and it works again.
i don't know if it's the lubrification in the cold or what.
oh well,
i've bought a new blower motor to install soon.

My guess would then be a flat spot on the armature. Probably a good thing you bought another blower motor.
