Gen1 control arm bushings

i need to change my lower control arm bushings on my car. There are 2 different bushings. The one from the sway bar to the control arm and the control arm to the body. I found a set with both bushings in it for about $40. anybody know of anywhere that is cheaper?

I am doing the same thing right now, replacing my lower control arm bushings, However , I have found a brand new LCA for 60 dollars with ball joint so I am getting that instead of wasting time replacing the bushings. Try rockauto

A price of $40 sounds fairly good to me.

However, if I were in your shoes I would consider replacing the control arms. The reason is that for similar or a little more money you may find a control arm that already has these bushings installed.

I can attest that it takes some work to remove the bushing where the sway bar goes through. I've heard rumors that the other one is pressed in but I don't know that for sure.

Before you purchase a control arm with bushings, you may want to consider a control arm with bushings *and* with a new ball joint already installed on it. (Again for a few more dollars, of course.)

Technically, it would be less of your labor to swap in the new arm since you'd do the arm and be done. Otherwise it takes a lot of screwing around to get those bushings out. I spent close to an hour to get one of the control arm bushings completely out of there.

Take your old control arms to the junkyard and get $5 for the scrap metal. Use that to buy a sub sandwich.

I just bought 2 new control arms with ball joints, good brand from rockauto for 60 a piece, IMO its much easier to swap out the whole thing than replacing the bushings and ball joints as the ball joint was 20 alone and 20 for the bushings, I rather spend the extra 20 dollars and save a few hours.

I purchased bushings from the Toyota dealer but had to pay $25 to have a machine shop press them in.

rock auto does not sell 1st gen control arms. thats why I was going with just the bushings. I have acces to a full shop with presses and lifts and everything so not a big deal.

Does anyone know the best way to remove the bushing where the stabilizer meets the control arm without removing the control arm ? Any special tools that would help. I have an 86 that I'm trying to get road worthy on a very tight budget. Thanks for any suggestions; Eugee
