89 Camry LE A140E problems

Hi,

Have been the happy owner of a 1989 Toyota Camry for about 2 1/2 months now. I just replaced the control arms, struts, tie rods, CV axles, and probably one or two more things.

I had a Kwik Kar change my trany fluid (Shame on me, it's so easy and I SHOULD have done it myself). They overfilled it about 4" above the full mark (hot).

I ran it like that for a month trying to figure out how and why it was making a CLUNK going from 1st to second gear. I checked the fluid by chance and holy mohammed on a matso! ITS FULL.

I changed the fluid myself easily and replaced it with Valvoline 75k miles + thuper duper ATF fluid that meets the toyota spec.

Runs great and shifts like butter for a few days then at red lights with the Trans in D and the brake on the engine shakes more than normal, making an annoying rattling noise. In downshifting from 3rd to second the engine RPMs drop down to about 500 or so and it begins to lug until it shifts, same thing when going from 2nd to 1st.

Help? I'm pretty happy with this car, other than those problems. 117k on it now, got it when it had 113. Good car.

It sounds like it is still slightly overfilled. My auto had the same symptoms and it was overfilled less than 1/2 a quart.

I've checked it after driving back from a jobsite, nearly 15 miles. It's right below thr full mark when hot.
