2nd Generation Trunk Latch Won't Catch

The metal piece that the trunk latches down onto is loose preventing the latch on the trunk lid from "catching" it. Anyone have any tips on replacing this? There is really limited access.

91 Camry 3sfe auto.
Thanks,
Jefe

The Haynes shop manual shows usuing an offset box end wrench to gain access to the bolt heads through the top opening.

It looks like a tight fit.

Good luck

I just checked my trunk, and the manual one more time. You will need to remove the plastic surround, to access the bolt heads from the inside of trunk.

I have found that a 2" putty knife with plastic electrical tape covering the blade works best for distributing the force/pressure required to lift plastic trim.

Thanks for the replies. I did not have any trouble getting the trim off or getting access to the bolt. The problem is that the bolt has somehow loosened and just spins without coming out or getting tighter. I suspect there is a welded on nut on the back side and there is really no way to get to the back side of the unit that I can tell.

Thoughts?
