2nd Generation 88 Camry M Tranny Question

Hey everyone Names Sam, just bought a 88 Camry DLX, the tranny needs to be replaced and i am looking around on ebay and other places, and i have some questions about bolt patterens and compatibility.

Now i have the 3SFE engine and the S51 tranny. been looking around and found one thats priced well that i think should work but not sure. Its an 86 celica trans that says its compatible w the 86 camry dlx hatch 4dr, 2.0 sohc. thnx for ur help and any other thoughts or help u think would help would be greatly appreciated.

the bolt pattern is for the flywheel. you'll be using your old one so it doesn't matter. any trans out of a toyota car with the s block engine will work. i don't know what engine the 86 celica is.

I would avoid going older with the transmission. It will probably fit, but the age might be an issue. The older they are, the more likely there will be problems (weak synchros, etc.).

Any 2wd transmission from an '87-'01 4-cylinder Camry and '87-'99 Celica GT or GTS. The Celica transmissions have shorter gearing thatn the Camry transmissions, but are externally compatible (you can swap out the electronic speedo for your mechanical speedo if you get a newer one).
